Week 3 / Surf City, U.S.A.

February 14 – 20, 2011

Every year there is a time when every Canadian questions why we put ourselves through the turmoil of winter.  That time of year is mid February, and the best way to deal with is to run away to somewhere warm…this year that place was California. I have spent a fair amount of time in California but I have never been to Huntington Beach (aka Surf City) until now.

The Huntington Beach Pier always seems to be surrounded by surfers.

While the beach is massive, it does have it’s man made eye sores.

At the base of Main Street is the Surfers’ Hall of Fame with a statue of the father of modern surfing, Duke Kahanamoku.

Huntington Beach is surprisingly large.  The circular objects are actually fire pits at the top of the beach.

It’s a long walk to the water!

A bike path follows the beach for miles down the coast.

You couldn’t ask for a better view while playing the drums.  You can see Catalina Island in the distance.
